Caitlin enjoys the Liniar experience

Hi humanbots!

We recently had the pleasure of another work experience youngster at Liniar HQ. As it’s always interesting to hear how they got on during their week with us, I like to let them take over as guest blogger.

Meet Caitlin…

Different departments

I did my work experience at Liniar, experiencing the different departments and the way they contribute to running the business.

I really enjoyed learning how important each department is, but also meeting new people and hearing about their experience of how they got to where they are today.

Monday

On the first day I walked around the site, learning where everything was and meeting everyone. Sue, the Marketing Director, then spoke to me about the marketing department and told me about what they do to promote the business. This was very interesting as before the week I didn’t know much about what happened in marketing.

I was then given a project by Simone, the Digital Marketing Manager, to look at their social media pages and come up with ideas and improvements for the @LiniarPiling Twitter page to increase followers.

Tuesday

I met Emma who works as a Sales Order Processor. She showed me how orders are placed and the connection that they have with their customers. She then took me around the warehouse to see where all the products are stored – I couldn’t believe the size of it!

Later on I attended the marketing team meeting to find out what everyone had been working on and the plans for the week ahead. After that I sat with Simon who showed me how he connects with customers through the use of email campaigns.

Wednesday

I visited the purchasing department where Kerry and Claire showed me how orders are placed and all the things that are needed to make sure that customers are able to get products on time. I then sat with Natalie who controls what products are being produced in the factories and learned which machine does what. This seemed a really interesting job as no two days are ever the same as things are constantly changing.

Thursday

Charlotte, the Business Development Manager, gave me the task of updating the customer database by telephoning customers and asking for contact details. At first this seemed quite daunting, but after a few phone calls I got the hang of it and liked it. After that I sat down with graphic designer Helen, who helped me create a postcard to send out to customers. I really enjoyed this as it gave me the chance to be creative.

Friday

On the last day I went to the finance department where Jess showed me how transactions happen, how suppliers are paid and all the other little things that help the business. This was a lot of information at first but I found it really interesting to see the money side of the business.

Later on I attended a corporate event and watched Roger Hartshorn, the CEO of Liniar, give a presentation of the history and development of the company and the future projects that are going to happen. This was a great chance to see where Liniar is going and how the local community will benefit from the planned developments.

A valuable experience

I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to experience the Liniar business and to meet people who have helped me to gain a better understanding of what career path that I would like to take in the future.

I appreciate the time everyone has taken to help me on my work experience and how welcome everyone has been, I have really enjoyed it. Thank you.

It was a pleasure to meet you Caitlin and we’re sure you’ve got a bright future ahead of you.
