2021 Home Trends on the Horizon

During 2020 we witnessed a shift in consumer buying habits, for two primary reasons: online versus in-person shopping and the inability to socialise. The pandemic forced homeowners to spend more time within their homes and gardens and as noted throughout the industry, this has driven demand to unforeseen spikes across products such as fencing, decking and patio and bi-folding doors.

As we begin a new year, systems company Liniar explores the latest online predictions for exterior home trends in 2021.

Cottagecore

When beginning our research, this new term kept cropping up. With over 300 Pinterest boards dedicated to the Cottagecore movement – because it’s now more than just a trend – and articles in Country Living and across mainstream news channels, it’s hard to ignore.

Essentially, Cottagecore celebrates rural, country living – including meshing the indoors and outside, bringing natural elements within the home or blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. While this is primarily an interior design trend, there are many elements that will benefit the fenestration industry.

Decking and fencing

Giving outdoor spaces a makeover will still be bang on trend in 2021. With flexible working between home and office here to stay for some time yet, consumers are already preparing for the warmer months.
