Growth through Excellence

Specialising in providing windows and doors across the social housing and commercial development sectors, Select Windows Ltd is a business that covers the whole of the UK from its headquarters in Walsall, West Midlands. The business’ focus is distributed between retail, trade and the commercial sectors.

Tony and John Wood founded Select Windows in 1979, and initially, it was a retail business, fabricating made-to-order windows for the domestic market in the Midlands. By 2003, they were winning contracts like the Walsall Housing refurbishment with 4,500 homes waiting for new windows. This job was ultimately the start of a very successful commercial division within the company.

Nearly a decade ago, Select Windows searched for an alternative systems provider, a company that would support their continued growth and offer options that weren’t currently available to them. After doing their research, Select Windows’ management team settled on industry-leading systems company, Liniar.

A visit to Liniar’s headquarters in the East Midlands was set up, and the team were taken through the extensive manufacturing facilities, as well as the excellent showroom showing off the full product range. The Select Windows team was impressed, not only with the facilities but also by the way the company was run and the people involved in the process.

Fast-forward to present day, and Select has used Liniar products on a significant number of commercial developments. The team’s experience is that architects and specifiers are impressed by the innovations in thermal efficiency offered by Liniar profiles, in addition to the cost savings generated by the reduction in required steel reinforcement. It’s these qualities, along with Liniar’s patented features, such as the weather dam used in Tilt and Turn windows, which are what makes this profile coveted for high-rise jobs.

Projects like the new build scheme by Willmott Dixon, involving a 74-bedroomed care home and 11 associated bungalows in Bedworth, have helped to put Select Windows on the map. This project wasn’t as straightforward as casement windows within brick. The site features a variety of different materials, including cedar boarding, as well as brick. The brief was to use grey casement windows within the care home, while the bungalows on site would have white casements.

The £120k project was seamless, completed on time and within budget, which helped send Select Windows soaring into the future. Since that initial project, Select has been completing jobs throughout the UK for everything from homeowners to business owners and beyond. 2019 looks to be bright for this growing business.
