A perfect blend of tradition and innovation

Soon after Monika and her husband Wayne moved into their new property, they began considering improvements to make it their perfect home. The couple quickly realised replacing the existing timber windows and doors was a priority and turned to local fabricator-installer Swadlincote Window Company for advice and assistance.

Monika explains, “Although the existing windows and doors were in pretty good condition, we knew that wood requires a lot of maintenance and didn’t want the hassle of re-painting every other year. Besides that, they were very draughty, and the lack of energy efficiency made us want to change them as soon as we could.”

Built in the early 1990’s, the property is designed in a classic country-residence style in a rural setting in Leicestershire.

Ensuring the new windows and doors would remain in keeping with the countryside aesthetic and surroundings required some thought. Monika recalls, “My husband and I already knew we wanted flush sash windows. We’d seen various properties in the area that were built around the same time as ours and had upgraded to PVCu windows. There were a few different styles, but those with flush windows looked much more impressive to us. They’re very neat, with no protrusion and unevenness, well suited to the surroundings.”

Monika found her chosen supplier extremely helpful, telling us, “The Swadlincote Windows team were fantastic. When surveying the property, they discovered our windows had internal brick sills which had been covered over with wood. The hidden brickwork was an attractive feature we wanted to expose, and they advised us this could be achieved by choosing a narrow internal sill. We also discussed the clean, rustic look we wanted to achieve for the outside of our home and were recommended Liniar’s Resurgence flush sash system, choosing the Anteak foil after being shown their wide variety of colour options.”

Commenting on the benefits of the Resurgence system, Swadlincote Windows Director John Birch states, “It’s very well-designed, and we’re proud to offer it to our customers. Not only does Resurgence have an elegant, minimalist appearance but it’s also double rebated which sets it apart from other flush sash windows and doors on the market.

“Liniar manufactures the Resurgence profile with a co-extruded bubble gasket and the double rebate means much tighter compression between these gaskets on the frame and sash when the window is closed. As a result, Resurgence offers superior weather proofing against wind and rain and does not have a visible gasket surrounding the external face like most available flush sash systems.”

Monika and her husband are delighted with their new windows and doors, describing how, “Before there were rooms that were always cold. For example, when working in the study I’d have the heating on, an oil-filled radiator plugged in, plus a blanket over me! And in the dining room we could feel a draught from the windows while we were eating.

“Since the upgrade we’re finding the property much easier to heat. We no longer feel the draughts, and the temperature throughout the house is consistent with rooms retaining their warmth much longer. Our new windows look stunning, and the French doors are perfectly colour-matched giving a seamless finish.”
