Located in Basildon, Essex, SGM Windows boasts a vast 25,000 ft² facility and has provided Liniar windows for such high-profile properties as the stunning coach house on Channel 4’s ‘Escape to the Chateau’. SGM was established in 2004 and has since amassed a well-earned reputation for high quality windows, doors and conservatories – and its future looks bright.

In 2012, SGM Windows chose to partner with industry-leading systems company Liniar, and has found continued success fabricating its innovative, secure and reliable range of fenestration products. In 2019, SGM’s fabrication operation reached new heights with Liniar’s brand new Resurgence window system.

What is Resurgence?

Launched to market in 2019 and winner of the NFA Product of the Year 2019, Resurgence is the UK’s first PVCu double-rebated, co-extruded flush sash window. Arriving with four fabrication methods, including Timberweld® and mechanical jointing, ultra-low U-values, and PAS 24 and Secured by Design accreditation even with mechanical jointing. Resurgence was designed to replicate the authentic appearance of a timber window with 21st century thermal efficiency, and developed with fabricators, fitters and property owners in mind.

Initial reactions

One of the first Liniar fabricators to begin manufacturing Resurgence, SGM’s Stuart Bull is perfectly placed to offer his thoughts on this brand new window, its fabrication methods and give feedback on how installers have found working with this innovative product.

We’ve been fabricating Liniar’s standard flush sash window for nearly four years, so it made sense to begin offering the ‘next best thing’. In our opinion, Resurgence is without a doubt a significant upgrade on Liniar’s standard PVCu flush sash window – and indeed, any other flush casement available on the market,” Stuart comments.

“While Resurgence offers four fabrication methods, as a business we chose to manufacture the finished product using mechanically joined transoms, mullions and frames – with Timberweld® sashes. This allows us to provide our customers with handcrafted aesthetics – which may take a little longer to produce – but the finished quality really stands out amongst other timber alternative windows.

What customers think

The true test of a product’s success isn’t simply the fabricator’s reaction – but fitters and property owners as well. We were keen to find out what the first fitters to get their hands on Resurgence had to say, and Stuart was in the ideal position to provide tangible feedback.

“The feedback from installers has been superb. Many of our installers have already gained additional business through recommendations”, confirms Stuart.

“Honestly, I’ve never had so much positive feedback from customers on their installations. Everyone genuinely loves the look of Resurgence – and how closely it replicates a timber window.”

A perfect handcrafted finish

“In reality, Resurgence isn’t just another PVCu window, it’s high-end – so it’s essential that the product’s finished quality reflects this. Using the Timberweld® method, SGM’s Resurgence windows offer a handcrafted finish once thought only available through traditional timber windows.

“With Timberweld we can provide a perfect, unrivalled and handcrafted finish to the sash corners in each and every run of fabrication.”

The acid test

Finally, we asked Stuart if would recommend Resurgence with the Timberweld® method to other fabricators. His response was quite unexpected:

“No – because I want to limit the competition making this product as well as we do!” he joked.
