Historic Character with Contemporary Benefits

Based in Lancashire, Nationwide Frame Services is an established installer of PVCu windows and doors. Committed to supplying high-quality materials and providing excellent service, the team have been using Liniar products for over 10 years and ensure all their fitters hold a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card. They have formed a close working relationship with Pearl Windows, a trusted fabricator which adheres to Liniar’s detailed fabrication instructions, ensuring everything is constructed exactly the way it was designed to be.

Nationwide is no stranger to the new-build marketplace, having worked with developers such as Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. However, the company also works on domestic refurbishments, and a recent project demonstrates the team’s ability to breathe new life into a period home.

A Picturesque Setting.

The project in the idyllic town of Blackrod saw Nationwide replacing over 25 dilapidated, traditional oak windows which were known for being high maintenance, in a building over 100 years old. Sitting west of the West Pennine Moors the town is steeped in history, as are many of the homes it comprises. The area gets typical British weather with bouts of heavy rain and strong winds but being high up and close to moorlands means it is quite exposed.

This called for robust windows capable of providing exceptional weather protection, without diminishing the home’s heritage and upsetting its quaint surroundings. To achieve this, Nationwide Managing Director John King chose leading UK PVCu systems company Liniar’s Resurgence range.

Commenting on the decision John states, “We knew flush sash windows would be best suited to keeping the period look and feel of the property. As Resurgence is the UK’s only PVCu double-rebated flush system, it was the obvious choice, since I knew from experience the windows would more than stand up to any weather the Pennines could throw at them.”

The specifications.

Resurgence is an 80mm flush sash, timber alternative window available in a wide range of colours. Pearl offers the Timberweld® method of jointing on Resurgence frames as standard, which gives an authentic timber-effect finish instead of the usual PVCu corner welds – perfect for this period property.

The Anteak foil fully complements the building’s stone construction and made it an ideal choice for this project. Furthermore, the flush fit delivers sleek aesthetics, blending in for a contemporary yet unobtrusive take on traditional timber windows. Staying true to the original style of the house was a key objective for the upgrade, which is what set the features of Resurgence windows apart from alternative products. The system also offers exceptional energy performance, another priority of the customer.

John explains, “They wanted a lower-maintenance alternative to wood, and the combined money-saving and environmental benefits offered by today’s window technology made the upgrade a no-brainer, while the sheer number of windows that needed replacing swayed the decision to choose PVCu as a cost-effective material.”

 The Result.

The building has retained its elegant characteristics now enhanced by the Resurgence windows which provide both functional and aesthetic improvements. Commenting on the finished project, John said, “The installation went very smoothly. We removed several stone mullions to accommodate the widest frames possible, providing the interior of the property with the maximum amount of natural light and taking full advantage of the incredible views.”

As well as being satisfied, the homeowner is looking forward to reduced energy bills. John continued, “The project looks gorgeous! Our customer sees the work not only as an investment in their comfort and wellbeing, but also as a way of helping tackle climate change by reducing their carbon footprint. They also said it will be nice for them not having to get the frames renovated periodically too, which was an inconvenient, time-consuming, and costly process.”

“We pride ourselves on our professional reputation and installing Liniar’s Resurgence windows enhances this. Between the quality of the workmanship and products, the customer was more than satisfied they made the right choice. We’re happy to have lived up to our name.”
