An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Precision Machinist to join award-winning manufacturer Liniar Ltd, based in Denby, Derbyshire – a subsidiary of the US-based Quanex group. Liniar is an industry leading PVCu extrusion company, designing and supplying a large portfolio of PVCu and aluminium profiles and products to a nationwide customer base of specialist window and door manufacturers, housebuilders, decking installers, landscapers and trade outlets.

Purpose of the role:

The successful applicant will report to the Tool Room Manager, and will be responsible for making precision tools (such as jigs, moulds and dies), which are then used in the manufacturing production process to make our uPVC products.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Be able to read engineering drawings to produce parts required using Lathes & drills, milling machines, grinding machines etc.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Set up and operate conventional, CNC or NC machine tools such as lathes, WEDM machines, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to given tolerances and specifications.
  • Inspect finished dies and calibrators for correct fittings, surface finish, contour conformity, and defects.

Key Skills & Knowledge:

  • Know the strengths and characteristics of metals and other materials, what the different cutting tools can do when working with a variety of materials
  • knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially the uPVC industry would be beneficial
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Basic numeracy, literacy and ICT skills
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Good attention to detail and hand to eye co-ordination
  • Ability to use precise measuring instruments.

Qualifications:

Apprenticeship or above in machining or engineering related field are essential.

Experience:

Previous experience of working in manufacturing / uPVC would be beneficial.

Hours of Work

Monday-Thursday, 8am-5pm and Friday, 8am-3pm
