Alumina: Not just a bi-folding door…

Launched in April 2016, the Alumina door range from Liniar took the industry by storm. A fully aluminium door created by an industry-leading PVCu systems company that not only matched the sculptured design of its windows, but also provided superb thermal efficiency, exceptional security, low U-values and the ability to be foiled for a warm-touch exterior.

Liniar customers around the UK are fabricating the Alumina system, with the reassurance of delivery from a stable UK supply chain.

Bi-folds, French and Residential doors

Alumina is best known for bi-folding doors. Each sash can be manufactured up to 2.5 metres high for stunning expanses of glass spanning up to 7 panes in width. A choice of five thresholds including a Part M compliant low threshold with no trench excavation required makes the Alumina bi-fold ideal for family living.

The sleek, flush design of Alumina lends itself perfectly to French doors too. Paired with timber-alternative, flush sash windows such as the Resurgence range, a foiled set of Alumina French doors provides the ideal complement for a fully flush installation.

For an entrance door with a difference, Alumina can also be made into residential doors. A huge choice of foiled or RAL powder-coated finishes result in a versatile product that offers a real alternative to composite or PVCu residential doors.

All Alumina doors offer superb thermal efficiency, with U-values as low as 1.3 W/m²K thanks to a polyamide thermal lock – and of course they’re tested to the highest security standards, with PAS24 and Secured By Design compatibility.

The evolution of Alumina

Since its initial launch, the Alumina range has benefited from constant enhancements and updates from Liniar’s Design and Development team.

Alumina was the first aluminium door to include a flexible bead for glazing – meaning no more wedge gaskets (or sore thumbs for installers!) and up to three times faster fitting than other aluminium bi-folding doors.

More recently, frame connectors enable Alumina bi-folds to span up to 8.5 metres wide – ideal both for commercial usage and for homeowners looking for more expansive openings to blend indoor and outdoor living areas.

This year, a brand new 40mm add-on head vent was launched to provide properties featuring deep plaster lines a sleek appearance with concealed ventilation. The airflow in the optional built-in trickle vent has been fully tested and the component can be fully foiled to match the rest of the Alumina door for a seamless, perfect finish.

What’s ahead?

Development of the Alumina range is far from finished – a radical new addition is in the pipeline and will be announced in the near future. We can’t say too much yet, but watch out for a new design style that homeowners are going to love!
