Coastal Bryn Cloddfa home gets energy efficient Liniar upgrade

Husband and wife Stephen and Alison Wagstaff recently upgraded their five-bedroom home in North Wales – replacing the old PVCu windows and doors, which were absorbing moisture and affecting energy efficiency, with new Liniar products.

Having been advised that Liniar has one of the most energy efficient window and door systems on the market, they turned to Chester-based installer Windows Direct, who came highly recommended, and received expert guidance from Director Gary Welsh.

Alison tells us, “The existing windows were old when we bought the house, eight years ago! It’s a coastal property built into a former hillside quarry, and whilst we enjoy stunning views our location also leaves the property exposed to the elements.

“Moisture build-up was becoming a problem within some windows, and they all looked like they’d seen better days. Stephen and I had a few requirements when choosing our new windows and doors – stylish appearance, protection against damp, increasing the overall house’s energy efficiency and to increase the amount of natural light into several smaller rooms downstairs. However, we weren’t sure how best to achieve everything we wanted and needed some advice.”

She continues, “Gary was very knowledgeable and did a great job of advising us. He provided clear explanations of ventilation options and window configurations that he felt would deliver the best solution.”

An installer of Liniar products, Windows Direct has established a reputation for impeccable customer service and workmanship.

Gary tells us, “Liniar offers an impressive, high-quality product range which is easy to work with and looks great too. Our customers are always impressed with the end results.

“I explained to Stephen and Alison we needed to include more air vents to comply with recent regulatory changes, and this would also provide crucial ventilation to eliminate any future moisture build up.”

He adds, “They opted for white casement windows and sliding patio doors made using Liniar’s 70mm EnergyPlus system, a cost-effective, versatile and thermally efficient PVCu profile. As well as providing insulation, the multi-chambered design also makes the profile structurally robust. This meant we could swap the existing two-pane windows in the bathroom, cloakroom, and two smaller bedrooms downstairs for a single pane configuration with no transom. As a result, the rooms would receive more natural light and the views they offer would be uninterrupted.

“Liniar profiles are also manufactured with a unique bubble gasket that provides a continuous seal, enhancing protection against wind and water ingress. I knew from experience, this would more than stand up to the weather conditions the property is exposed to.”

With a plan in place, the installation could begin. Stephen comments, “It was a very smooth process with minimal disruption. Garry and his team fitted work seamlessly around our schedule, and we were very impressed with how clean and tidy they kept everything throughout.

“Work was completed within the projected timeline and both Alison and I are delighted with how our home now looks with its new windows and sliding patio doors.”

The Wagstaffs are already enjoying the benefits renovating has brought to their home, with Alison explaining, “We’ve been surprised by how much brighter the downstairs rooms are now, thanks to the single pane windows.

“It’s made such a difference and really shows Garry’s expertise in making sure we got the best solution for our property – and precisely the outcome he’d promised.”

Stephen concludes, “Though it’s now autumn, we’re still experiencing mild temperatures so haven’t had to run our heating much yet. However, we have had a lot of rain and can certainly see the condensation issue has been resolved.

“We don’t have any concerns heading into the winter, as we’re confident that our decision to install Liniar windows and doors was the right one and that they have been fitted properly, with care and attention to detail. The early indications are great!”
